Clinical Research Associate
The Division of Endocrinology at Northwestern University is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Associate for an exciting, expanded role in cutting-edge diabetes research. This position is 100% supported by funding from federal and non-profit organizations, under the supervision of Dr. Amisha Wallia.
The Clinical Research Associate role is in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University. The division has approximately 19 full-time faculty members and is a combination of bench and clinical research.
The Clinical Research Associate role will independently manage day-to-day operations including identifying & securing needed resources; creating, implementing, monitoring, and updating project plans; facilitating meetings with appropriate parties; tracking tasks/deliverables to ensure timelines, milestones and/or goals are attained; monitoring & reporting progress as appropriate; and resolving or escalating issues in a timely manner. The candidate will need to ensure that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the Northwestern University Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
Specifically, the clinical research associate will be responsible for managing research-related activities for both epidemiological and novel interventional studies in diabetes (Type 1, with opportunities in Type 2), including retention and recruitment of participants, participant screening, data collection and reporting, subject management, adverse event reporting, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and IRB-approved protocols. Additional possibilities include budgetary management, manuscript and/or grant writing/preparation, and other opportunities for advancement.
The successful candidate is exceptionally detail-oriented, may have prior experience working in either clinical trials or observational research studies, or previously worked in a clinical diabetes setting and have a strong interest in clinical research. Candidates with prior clinical experience (RN, APP, RD, etc.) are preferred. They will need to collaborate effectively as an individual and in a team and contribute to building a positive team culture, have strong critical thinking skills, be creative and thoughtful in proposing ideas to achieve the study goals, and be technologically proficient with the ability to learn and navigate electronic medical record systems and project databases, and understand regulatory operations.
This hybrid position is located on the Northwestern University Chicago Campus with one day per week remote and flexible hours. Position title: Nurse Manager II (combined Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Clinical Research Center)

This position manages an 8 inpatient, 4 infusion chair, and 6 exam room nursing unit providing 24/7 care for specialty medicine/surgical epilepsy monitoring patients and inpatient, ambulatory, and clinic research participants. It is located on the main campus of the Oregon Health & Science University, an academic medical center. The inpatient facilities are utilized for patients with epilepsy for seizure monitoring; research participants undergoing sleep and circadian rhythm studies, experimental therapeutic infusions, and other nursing-intensive procedures; and hospital acute care admissions. The infusion area is utilized for research participants receiving experimental therapeutic agents who require nursing support for infusions, safety monitoring, and pharmacokinetic sampling. The outpatient exam rooms are utilized for outpatient research protocol visits. Clinical admissions follow relevant OHSU regulations covering inpatient services. Research admissions and visits additionally follow relevant institutional, state and federal regulations covering patient-oriented research procedures. The research mission is supported by the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI), funded via an NIH Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) award. The position reports both to the Director of Acute Care Medicine and the program director of the OCTRI Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), and supervises approximately 30 RNs, CNAs, HUCs, and Research Assistants.

BSN or higher degree in nursing and Master’s degree in nursing or related field (e.g. MBA with Healthcare Administration concentration, Public Health);
OR Enrolled in nursing or related graduate program within 2 years and completion within 5 years.
Five years of experience as a registered nurse in a related clinical area of practice and two years recent formal or informal management/leadership experience.
