The film features research participants and scientists at Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer's Prevention (WRAP). Find out more about the NOVA premiere on the PBS website.
About DETERMINED The independent documentary portrays three women who participate in the WRAP research study and return every two or three years to undergo a multidisciplinary oral cognitive test. This battery of questions looks for problems with their memory that could be a signal of their worst fear - the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Therese Barry-Tanner is a producer of the film and DETERMINED began as her idea in 2011. Barry-Tanner understands Alzheimer's disease at an intimate level as a person who served as a caregiver for her mother with Alzheimer's disease. She is also a WRAP Participant. She said she hopes DETERMINED will bring the audience through the emotional journey and difficult decisions made when a loved one lives with or dies from Alzheimer's disease. She also hopes the film will share the experience of being a research participant and an inside look at the people waiting to find a cure. Most importantly, she wants to encourage people to take action that the film may inspire.
