Orders, Epic, RC scope questions

Hi to my new IACRN friends! First of all, it was so great to meet many of you and to experience my first ever IACRN conference.  I am looking forward to many more!

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend Liz Ness' roundtable on the CRN/RC scope and I had a couple of questions that I was curious to hear what others are doing at their institution.

    1) Are research coordinators pending research order sets at your institution and if yes, how is that going?

    2) For those that have Epic, are any of you and/or RCs you work with utilizing the AE documentation page? This recently came up as an option at our institution with the most recent upgrade - has not been implemented. I was curious to hear if any of you had firsthand experience.

Thank you all in advance for any insights and I hope to see you next year!

    Hi Elisabeth,

Welcome to the IACRN community! I recommend you follow up with Liz Ness at NIH and Tammy Kiger at Uni Wisconsin ~ I believe they can provide more information for you.

    Thanks for joining IACRN.

    Hello Terry,

We use EPIC and have allowed coordinators to pend orders but not release order sets. We are in the midst of implementing AE reporting in EPIC as well as the addition of tasks.

    Hi Terry,

I know MD Anderson also was allowing CRCs to pend orders as well when I was last there in 2016. I can’t recall if they had the AE functionality but Sheryl Forbes or Doyle Bosque would know more. :)

Thank you, Terry, Lila, and Lisa,

This is helpful to understand what other organizations have similar practices. Lila, I will reach out to you directly as I would be curious to know how the AE documentation capability is working for your research teams. We are just beginning to pilot here.
