We do a lot of sleep studies on my unit and we have to obtain blood samples from the subjects while they are sleeping. We do this through a peripheral IV via extra long IV tubing that extends from the subject through a port in the wall out into another room where we use dual stopcocks for drawing clearance and then obtaining blood samples. As you can imagine, this method is fraught with issues related to missed samples because the IV stops working and hemolyzed samples.
Just wondering if any of you do similar sleep studies and what your method is for obtaining blood samples while the subject sleeps.
