Enhancing clinical research quality and safety through specialized nursing
For many of our studies we use a peripheral IV line for blood draws, using a double stop-cock method and withdrawing anywhere from a 3-10ml waste from the distal port, depending on the P.I. orders for waste. We were considering a trial of a closed-system device that utilizes a built-in 5 cc waste reservoir and a needleless z-site sampling port. These were designed for arterial or central lines, but we have been told that sites also use them for off-label use on peripheral lines. Does anyone have any experience in using a similar device in this scenario? Thanks.
